While the Okanagan Valley is well-known for its exceptional wines, the region’s craft beer scene has been rapidly growing and creating a buzz of its own. Here are four Delicious Destinations breweries to add to your must-visit list.

Lakesider Brewing Co.

Although it’s not right along the lakeshore like you might expect, the bright, airy space and decor at West Kelowna’s Lakesider Brewing Co. will make you feel as though you’re in a beach house.

The team at Lakesider always have seasonal brews on tap, along with wine from neighbourhood wineries. They use local fruit to craft year-round favourites, like their Sunkissed Apricot Wheat Ale and serve special edition beers like their Beachball-ini Stonefruit Radler. Find tasty eats, including thin-crust pizzas, street tacos, and options for those who are gluten-free, vegan and vegetarian.

Cannery Brewing

Located in Penticton, Cannery Brewing serves up award-winning craft brews, made with premium malted grains and Pacific Northwest hops in its taproom.

In 2022, the brewery took home the top spot in the Fruit Beer category at the BC Beer Awards for its “Thornless” Blackberry Porter, as well as a Gold in the Imperial Stout category for its Kindling Imperial Stout at the Canadian Brewing Awards.

Be sure to check out The Cannery Backyard—an outdoor, dog-friendly (on-leash) hangout with rotating food trucks, live music, and more! Visit the events page on Cannery’s website to see their full schedule of events.

Highway 97 Brewing

Right beside The Cannery is Highway 97 Brewing Co. The beer hall style space has a rustic, industrial feel.

All of Highway 97’s craft beers are made with local products sourced from BC and Western Canada, including hops from Naramata and grains from the North Okanagan. The dog-friendly brewery takes things to another level, with dog beds and house-made dog treats for your four-legged friends.

Slackwater Brewing

A few blocks away, you’ll find Slackwater Brewing.

Slackwater prides itself on delivering simple, balanced craft beer. In 2022, the team was awarded a Silver in the North American-style Amber/Red Ale at the Canadian Brewing Awards for its Idleback Amber Ale. The brewery also won Best Tap Handle and Best Packaging Design, for its Lo-Tide Lager, at the 2022 BC Beer Awards.

Be sure to visit these four breweries next time you’re in the Okanagan.
