Pears are grown in the Okanagan, Similkameen region, and Kootenay Valley. Pears grow best on heavy soils, which limits the areas that they can be grown.

Pears are one of the very few fruits that do not ripen on the tree but need time for the sugars to develop off the branch. When ripe, a pear is sweet, buttery, tender, and filled with juice.

Most Common Varieties:

  • Anjou
  • Bartlett
  • Bosc

Did you know?

  • B.C. produces nearly 5 million kilograms of pears each year.
  • A large pear tree can produce up to 300 lbs of fruit!
  • Pears taste like candy when dehydrated.
