Build Your Perfect Bagel with B.C.-Caught Salmon and Plant-Based Alternatives

Every good brunch needs a bagel station, right? I love offering options for everyone, so I toast up Gluten-Free Sourdough Bagels from Alkeme Foods (Rossland) and regular Sourdough Bagels from The Sourdough Whisperer (Campbell River). Spread on some Buffalo Cream Cheese from Natural Pastures and top it off with cold-smoked lox from Delta’s St. Jean’s Cannery & Smokehouse for a classic combo. If you’ve got vegan guests, the plant-based Smoked Salmon from Vancouver’s Save Da Sea and Garlic & Chive Alive Dairy-Free Cheese Spread from New Westminster’s Living Tree are fantastic alternatives. Don’t forget to garnish with capers, fresh dill, and thinly sliced red onion for that perfect finishing touch.

Pro tip: Set out a variety of toppings so everyone can customize their bagel just the way they like it.

Egg Frittata with B.C.’s Freshest Seasonal Veggies

A warm, fluffy frittata is always a hit, and it’s the perfect centerpiece for your brunch spread. I love using free-range eggs from Vancouver Island’s Farmer Ben’s because the flavour is so rich and fresh—it really makes a difference. For a true taste of fall, I sauté local kale and leeks and mix them right into the eggs. Then, I add a generous helping of Pacific Wildfire Verdelait from Natural Pastures (Courtenay) for that creamy, savoury depth with just the right amount of spice. Pop it in the oven, and soon your home will smell divine.

Pro tip: Prep your veggies the night before to make brunch even easier in the morning.

There’s nothing like the smell of freshly baked croissants. With Vancouver’s Atome Bakery’s ready-to-bake croissants, you get all the deliciousness without the effort of making them from scratch. They come out perfectly flaky and golden every time. I like to serve them with Wild Blueberry Jelly from Port Alberni’s Forest for Dinner comforting treat. I offer guests a choice of Powell Rover’s locally roasted Deadhead Dark coffee by 32 Lakes or a warming Pumpkin Spice Latte from Vancouver’s Blume for a perfect pairing. Present croissants and jam with the savoury dishes for a balanced, irresistible spread that your guests will rave about.

Pro tip: Bake the croissants just before your guests arrive—your home will smell like a Parisian bakery!

A mimosa bar always adds a little sparkle to brunch. Set up a DIY station with Abbotsford’s Chaser’s Fresh Juice—Blueberry Lemonade, Cranberry Cider, and Fresh-Squeezed Orange cold-pressed juices are my go-tos—and pair them with Okanagan Fall’s Mayhem Sparkling White. For those who don’t drink alcohol, the juices on their own are just as refreshing. Add a few fresh fruit garnishes, like orange slices or cranberries, to really elevate the drinks.

Pro tip: A mimosa bar brings an element of fun and allows guests to personalize their drinks however they like.
