About the Buy BC Certification Mark

The Authorized Use Agreement for Certification enables B.C. food producers and processors to use the Buy BC Certification Mark (i.e., the Buy BC Logo) on their product/packaging labels and marketing/promotional materials.

Only qualifying products (see FAQ) can make use of the Buy BC Certification Mark. The Buy BC Certification Mark must be used in accordance with the terms of the Authorized Use Agreement for Certification, to be provided once the Application is approved.

Direct Cost of Producing Products Calculator

A “Direct Cost of Producing Products Calculator” spreadsheet is required to certify processed products as “Buy BC”. This spreadsheet outlines the percentage of direct costs of production that originate in British Columbia.

Please download the spreadsheet below and complete it with a cost breakdown of your processed products. A cost breakdown for each individual processed product (SKU) is required. Once completed, upload the file below.

For a processed product to qualify, a percentage of variable processing costs must originate within British Columbia, and the total direct cost of production must be equal to, or higher than 51%.

***Please note note that if there are no variable processing costs in B.C, the product is ineligible for the Buy BC logo.***

I attest that the Buy BC Certification Mark may only be used for the eligible activities and purposes outlined below:

Labeling Products with a Buy BC Logo: Individual Product, Case Packaging

Print Marketing: Retail flyers, marketing brochures/rack cards, stickers, sell sheets, table-tent cards, banners, recipe cards, contest forms

Online/TV Marketing: Social Media (organic and paid), online advertising/promotions, TV advertising.

Signage (static or digital): In-store displays, off-premises signage, shelf-talkers/-strips. wobblers, outdoor ads (i.e. transit, vehicle).

Promotional Merchandise: Shopping bags, aprons/clothing, placemats.

By submitting the Application, I/we hereby declare on behalf of the Applicant that the information provided in the Application is true and correct in every respect and acknowledge that the completion and submission of this Application does not guarantee that the Applicant will be entitled to receive an Authorized Use Agreement to use the Buy BC Certification Mark.

I/we agree to not use the Buy BC logo in advertising that: a) may be misleading, b) has claims considered to denigrate other products/commodities, or c) includes health claims not substantiated by Health Canada.

I/we agree to allow Buy BC to contact me/us by email with information regarding the Buy BC Program. I/we may withdraw consent at any time by sending an email to buybc@gov.bc.ca or through the unsubscribe link.

I/we further acknowledge and agree that, if approved, any permitted use of the Buy BC Certification Mark will be governed by the terms of the Authorized Use Agreement provided to the Applicant hereby agrees to be bound, and unless otherwise approved in advance in writing, the Authorized Use Agreement will not apply to any purposes not referred to therein, which will be based upon the information that I/we have provided in this Application.

If this application is signed using an electronic signature, I/we understand and acknowledge that an electronic signature has the same legal effect, and can be enforced in the same way, as a written signature.
